Friends: All great things come to an end-they say.
My time at the Rio Grande Farm Park has meant a lot to me, and I hope to many of you.
I am so thankful for this opportunity to serve you. Alas, it is time for me to retire from Rio Grande Farm Park and to start a new chapter in my life – one where I take the RGFP, our incredible team, the memories, and this amazing journey with me in my heart and stand back and position myself as a forever cheerleader, and sometimes adviser. I get to watch the RGFP grow with Liza Marron at the helm of the San Luis Valley Local Foods Coalition, and with Amber Middleton managing the transition. Now the only thing left to do is to continue in every way to make the Park flourish!
And, this will carry on without me. We each have a responsibility to lead by example, to nurture and protect what is good and right in the world, and to remember that our work to ensure the Park can have a positive impact on the people in the San Luis Valley and beyond. It will continue to provide fresh food and entrepreneurial training, to mentor young leaders, and create regenerative space for all to enjoy.
I believe we should all be thankful for an extraordinary sense of accomplishment and a confidence that we, together at the Rio Grande Farm Park are creating a beautiful sense of place for our community, and that we together are doing our darnedest to build beautiful soil and beautiful lives. These values for the earth and community are those that I urge you to continue to embody, not just in work ,but in your life. I know the people that I leave behind care deeply about these important values that have guided me, and I know they will continue to guide all of you.
I have strived to do my best to not settle and to live to high standards. To be truly transparent about the work that we do. To listen to you, all of you, to help design the Park and the future of our beautiful community. We can only do this together if we all roll up our sleeves and invest in what we believe. Let’s set goals and to meet them! I am grateful to all of you for your leadership, your advice, your collaboration, and your willingness to make a difference. Thank you for celebrating individuality, and knowing that none of us are perfect, but we are perfectly imperfect; and what really matters is that we work hard to be thoughtful, do the unexpected, and make little gestures that brighten each others’ days.
To this end I ask that you brighten my day by considering joining me for my good-bye party. There will be no ticket price, just come and invest what you can. We will celebrate and have a Fundraiser for the Park to help with operations and the building of a greenhouse that we hope will provide some sustainability for the Park in the future. I hope that on Friday, February 21st, you will join me and my amazing family to help set the Park up for success. I can then thank you each personally, and we can ensure together that the Park has many more opportunities for success!
We wish Julie all the best in her next venture – she will be dearly missed!
