With such a short growing season in our high-elevation desert climate, this greenhouse is our saving grace. We can extend our growing season and diversify the types of produce we're able to grow.

We've got lettuce planted, chicks brooding, and seeds started. The growing season is already off to an abundant start!

Join us for an exciting workshop on anaerobic digestion and learn how this centuries-old technology can benefit your community! Anaerobic digestion has been used all over the world to generate methane-containing biogas, and it's time for San Luis Valley to catch up.

In this workshop taught by Nick Chambers, we'll explore how anaerobic digesters can serve the purpose of a septic tank to treat wastewater while creating a carbon-neutral gas for home cooking. This means that not only can you reduce your carbon footprint, but you can also utilize the effluent as fertilizer for your garden.

The reasons why anaerobic digestion hasn't been utilized until recently for small-scale in the US are largely due to cultural perspectives and fossil energy structures. However, we believe that by designing for biogas to be used for cooking in homes, we can force a redesign of the whole house to incorporate a full carbon-neutral portfolio of renewable energy and fertilizer use and generation for the surrounding soils.

This workshop is perfect for anyone who is interested in sustainable living, renewable energy, or just wants to learn more about anaerobic digestion. Don't miss out on this exciting opportunity to learn about the future of sustainable energy!

ABOUT YOUR ANAEROBIC TEACHER:

Nicholas Chambers has been a small farmer, Colorado local food entrepreneur, and developer of historic properties into Renewable Energy Parks. He has taught at the biofuels lab at Santa Fe Community College for over 15 years, where they teach biodiesel, ethanol, wood chip gasification, anaerobic digestion, solar, and algae. He has designed, built, and installed biogas digesters around South Central Colorado and is now currently working on a larger scale project funded by the EPA for light eco-industrial park where the by-products of one industry are the inputs for another.
