Rio Grande Farm Park Summer Assistant – Job Description

The Rio Grande Farm Park (RGFP) is looking for a Farm Park Summer Assistant to work alongside the RGFP Program Directors & Land Manager. This person will split time assisting in the logistics of carrying out programming for the 2022 season and also with working on the small-scale farming operation.  This includes a variety of projects including vegetable cultivation, the building of an adobe wall and horno, management of a small pasture-raised egg operation, and coordination of a nighttime farmers market. In addition, this position will work directly with farmers, youth, family gardeners, community stakeholders and partners, and volunteers to ensure the farmers’ and program participants’ needs are met and park projects are maintained. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in regenerative agriculture, small-scale farm businesses, environmental and outdoor education.


  • Assist RGFP Program Directors in the day-to-day operations of the farm park programs.
  • Work on the vegetable plot for sale to the Valley Roots Food Hub to include planting, weeding, harvesting and packaging
  • Assist with RGFP Pasture Raised Eggs project project, gathering eggs, feeding and watering hens and rotating pasture
  • Take the lead on updating social media (Facebook and Instagram) on Farm Park events, offerings, and stories as needed
  • Help plan and assist with the Night Market, which will take place once a month throughout the summer
  • Assist with program evaluation and data collection
  • Share the Farm Park experience and culture with the community by giving tours
  • Participate in the delivery of the Farming Education to local youth, community members, and farmers at the Park in collaboration with partner organizations.
  • Help out with the farmer education in the Farmer programs including the Incubator Farmer Program and the Family Farmers as well as farmers in the greater SLV.
  • Participate in volunteer workdays as available
  • Assist Farm Park staff with drip irrigation and flood irrigation
  • Assist with noxious weed control throughout property, including researching best methods for weed control per species and collecting data on locations and treatment as needed
  • Supervise and lead volunteers, including youth volunteers as needed
  • Assist with managing Family Farmer Plots

  • Helpful and able to pitch in where needed
  • Interest and or background in agriculture, sustainability or regenerative farming
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Able to carry 50 lbs short distances 
  • Physically able and willing to perform various types of manual labor in all types of weather
  • Self-motivated and able to work well alone and with others
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred, but not required

30 hours per week with flexible scheduling. Hourly pay $14.50 per hour. The position will span 5 months, beginning on April 15th, 2022 and ending on September 15th, 2022. If the selected applicant has an area they would like to pursue, the RGFP staff will offer some flexibility for special projects.
