At the Mercadillo en el Rio, local farmers, artists, and makers come together to sell their goods and help people in Southern Colorado get healthy, organic food.
At the Rio Grande Farm Park, a diverse group of experienced and new farmers united in their commitment to organic farming. Hailing from Mexico, Guatemala, and Southern Colorado, these farmers work in harmony with nature to produce food that is not only delicious but also environmentally friendly.
What started as a small farm stand with tables of fresh food has become a big community event. Every Wednesday in the summer, people can visit the park, listen to local music, drink local drinks, eat local food, and buy things from local makers. This helps the farmers and vendors make more money and meet more community members. It also allows our local economy and food system to grow stronger.
The Mercadillo is notable because it's a farmer's market right where the food is grown. People can see where their food comes from and meet the farmers who grow it.
At the Mercadillo en el Rio, we strive to make fresh, healthy food accessible to all. That's why we're proud to accept SNAP and offer Double Up Food Bucks at our market. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy the bounty of our local farmers.
